Aerial Photo's

The following aerial photos were obtained from the Earth Data Analysis Center at UNM.  Beta Xi founded in 1916 has a long standing history during the growth of the University.  Possibly one of the first Significant Sigs at the University was Thomas Popejoy, who served as the University President and for whom the traveling Intramual Trophy is named after in addition having our preforming arts center named after him..

This aerial photo from 1954 shows a red outline of the Sigma Chi Addition to the City . This property was all part of the purchase made by the Sigma Chi Alumni Association.  Does anyone remember when the purchase was made?  The property purchased by the New Mexico Sigma Chi Alumni Association, deeded the property now know as Sigma Chi Rd to the City.  The area of property purchased, was placed on the City maps as the Sigma Chi Addition to the City of Albuquerque. This aerial is from 1954.

Address Change

Many Brothers remember the Sig Address as 721 Yale.  The original name of Yale Blvd was La Villagra.  In 1976, while Lee Morgan was an undergraduate at UNM, he petitioned the City to change the address based on historical significance of the date 1855. Since Sigma Chi Rd ended at Yale and part of the House actually faces Sigma Chi Rd, the petition was approved.  The Sig House became 1855 Sigma Chi Rd.  The Sig House is the only Chapter house located on a road named Sigma Chi.
The University has grown up around the Sigma Chi Property. This photo is from August 2008. Photo taken by Lee Morgan.

Our letter are painted every year at the East end of Sigma Chi Rd.
